    Welcome to the Drama department

    Curriculum Intentions and Aims

Drama is about sharing the human experience. It equips students to become expert communicators, able to express themselves, their ideas and feelings, but also to interpret, appreciate and empathise with others.

We are an energetic, focused and supportive Drama department, working collaboratively to ensure our pupils will get the most from Drama at Finham.

We encourage the development of creativity, communication, confidence and self-discipline. Through exciting practical and theoretical lessons, Drama allows all students to respond, develop, perform and evaluate their work whilst developing their knowledge of the world and the people in it. Exploring challenging issues, such as Homelessness, Immigration, Social Media and Conflict pupils learn to empathise with others by stepping into their shoes and questioning their preconceptions.

Drama provides students with a range of skills transferable to a variety of vocational and future pathways. We are living in the ‘Age of Presentation’ requiring workers who are adept communicators, innovative thinkers and excellent team players. The collaborative nature of Drama as an art form provides students with opportunities to develop their interpersonal skills as well as their voice, gestures and body language to convey meaning to an audience.

Year 7 and 8 have drama lessons once a week where they explore a range of techniques, scripts, stimuli and learn the skills of collaboration and negotiation. Pupils can then opt to continue studying Drama in Year 9 and ultimately choose to take Edexcel GCSE or A level Drama in option classes at Key Stage 4 and 5. We endeavour to challenge and support all learners through inspiring lessons that encourage creativity and team work. We also offer many enrichment opportunities to our students with regular events and trips.
