(NB: The cost is not guaranteed and will change when the trip is recruited to. This is a guide only)
We stay in a hotel just outside Lognes. This is a small town in the region of Marne La Vallée where we are in the process of re-establishing the link with the local Collège (Lower Secondary School). Then relocate to a hotel on the outskirts of Disneyland Paris where we will stay for two nights.
Whilst in France, students have the opportunity to experience a half day in a French school, work with some of the students from the Collège. We visit the impressive nearby Chateau Vaux le Vicomte. We explore in and around Paris where students have the opportunity to have a guided tour of the Stade de France, home to the national team; see such sights as the Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, Montmartre and take a boat trip on the River Seine. At the end of our stay we will spend one day at Disneyland Paris which is always a highlight.
Aims and Outcomes of the trip
To deepen students’ understanding the French Speaking world.
To provide students with the opportunity to meet with students of their own age.
To use their French language for a real purpose and to improve their fluency and comprehension of spoken and written French.
To experience French culture and to learn about the history of its capital.
We hope that at the end of the trip students will have increased their confidence in speaking a foreign language as well as having the courage to deal with situations independently.
They should have a better understanding of the country and its culture with having had the opportunity to talk to French teenagers and to try different foods. They will have completed workbook during their time away with activities similar to GCSE scenarios which provides an excellent base for KS4 study.
On their return students share their experiences with the Year group below in order to inspire others to participate in future trips. In addition, students should have greater confidence in their ability to communicate with others.
Feedback from students
Nathaniel: I enjoyed Paris because we saw the Eiffel Tower and other famous sights. It was great to spend time with my friends.
Aaron: I enjoyed seeing the view from the Arc de Triomphe and the boat trip on the River Seine because it was cool to see all the sights. It was a good opportunity to practise French and hear people speaking it in their everyday lives.
Kacie: The people speak very fast in Paris but I was able to understand some words. I enjoyed exploring Montmartre.
Abby: Disneyland was so good, we had a great time there. I loved going to Montmartre to see the Sacré Coeur and the artists’ square. I enjoyed climbing the stairs to Montmartre and eating an evening meal in the square. The food was great, we tried macarons and crêpes. We spoke to some local people in French which was really good practice.
Harnek: It was really fun, especially Disneyland and the boat cruise on the Seine. I enjoyed the Arc de Triomphe and the cathedral. I used my French to read signs and menus.
Isabelle: I really enjoyed the food, shopping and going to Disneyland. It helped me understand French and motivated me to keep learning it.
