Raising Awareness
British Sign Language
During BSL week, students have the chance to truly immerse in the wonderful world of sign language and gain a profound connection and appreciation of the importance of sign language.
Students have the opportunity to learn British Sign language and gain an exclusive insight into the problems some deaf people come across through an assembly by Sign Together UK.
Many students engage splendidly with the material, evident from seeing them practising in the corridors. This is an opportunity that not many people have, and Finham believes it is vital to learn sign language, a language that thousands speak yet most do not have a chance to learn.
Everyone in society deserves to be understood. Consequently, it is essential that as a society we work towards understanding others.
Last year the school managed to raise £242.18 for the National Deaf Children's Society!
Finham Dragons Den
An excellent opportunity for our budding entrepreneurs to pitch their business idea to an actual investor.
James Ison, a very successful young millionaire, was so impressed by the talent he saw in our sixth form students that he will be coming back next year to hear all the new ideas.
The students gain vast experience through this process which would help them in life after school. As James says, life is a pitch’ and what better way to get started than with the help of our dragons. Students gain feedback and an opportunity to improve their business idea and have the possibility of launching that business idea in the real world with financial backing and links into the industry.
