Students are also encouraged to go on university conferences and lectures, work placements and job insight programmes.
Leadership
We strongly believe our Sixth Formers are role models and they are encouraged to help the local community, teachers and junior students wherever possible. We have a school wide House system and Sixth Formers take an active lead in the organising of events. Opportunities to work within the school community and develop vital skills such as communication, leadership and resourcefulness are available to Sixth Formers. They can take part in various schemes, such as peer mentoring or paired reading, become a Year Council representative, an elected member of our School Council or a Senior Prefect (led by two Head Prefects). We have a very active Sixth Form Committee with an elected President, Vice President, Social Secretary, Sports Officer and Charity Officer. They regularly organise social, sporting and charity events such as quiz nights, fancy dress nights, Christmas parties and of course the Leavers' Ball.
Creativity, Action and Service
All year 12 students are requested to undertake our CAS programme to broaden their experiences during their time in sixth form. For this students are required to undertake a number of hours dedicated to activities that are Creative, that require Action and those that are offering their Services. Pastoral Care and Careers Advice
As a member of Finham Park Sixth Form, you will receive personal support and guidance on a day-to-day basis from your Learning Mentor and will have access to a comprehensive programme of career guidance. The Learning Mentor is responsible for daily administration and registration, and will be your first point of contact if you have a problem. The Learning Mentor looks after the personal and academic welfare of the group and each individual student, and is the compiler and writer of university, college or employment references.
There is a defined Pastoral Programme delivered through time spent with the Learning Mentor. Students have time to resolve problems, work through issues or talk about progress - four days a week. There are weekly Year Assemblies and a weekly Learning Assembly that allow a wide range of themes to be presented.
You will also be given the opportunity to attend external courses, listen to visiting speakers and explore contemporary topics with your peers. Progress of individual students is monitored through progress checks, written reports and parents' consultation evenings.
