AS/A2 Psychology
Entry Requirements
English GCSE (or other essay based subject) - Grade B or above, Science GCSE - Grade B, Mathematics GCSE - Grade C.
Course Content
Psychology is a subject which will interest students who want to know more about the workings of the mind and human behaviour. The OCR syllabus emphasises the application to everyday life of psychological concepts, theories and research. Psychology encourages the development of literacy, communication, IT and numeracy skills. It is taught using a variety of active teaching techniques to make the content accessible to students with varied learning styles.
AS LEVEL
Study of 15 pieces of Psychological research:
Social Psychology
Physiological Psychology
Developmental Psychology
Individual Differences
Cognitive Psychology
Students will also study and conduct four psychological investigations.
A2 Level
Study of applied psychology (Health and Clinical Psychology and Psychology of Sport and Exercise) Students will also study a range of perspectives issues, methods and debates and will study aspects of research design and implementation.
Assessment (OCR)
AS LEVEL:
Exam (assessment of the 15 core studies) 2hrs
Exam (assessment of the individual four investigations) 1hr
A2 LEVEL:
Exam (assessment of applied psychology) 1.5hrs
Exam (assessment of the perspective, methods and debates) 1.5hrs
