 AS/A2 Chemistry
Entry Requirements
Students should have gained at least B in both Core and Additional Award Science GCSE (Higher Paper) or grade B in Physics/Chemistry/Biology GCSE, as well as Mathematics GCSE to
a grade C. Students who do not meet this requirement may be allowed entry to the course by individual arrangement with the Head of subject.
Course content
AS LEVEL: Atoms, Bonds and Groups: (30% AS / 15% A2) 1 hour written exam
Chains, Energy and Resources: (50% AS / 25% A2) 13/4 hour written exam
Practical skills in chemistry: (20% AS)
Internally assessed coursework
A2 LEVEL:
Rings, Polymers and Analysis: (15%) 1 hour written exam
Equilibria, Energetics and Elements: (25%) 13/4 hour written exam
Practical skills in chemistry 2: (10%)
Internally assessed coursework
Assessment (OCR)
The units are examined in January and June for AS and A2.
