Sixth Form
A decision to join Finham Park Sixth Form means excellent opportunities to pursue academic and social interests in a supportive environment. These opportunities, taken to the full, will give the Sixth Former both personal satisfaction and a firm foundation for the future. You can do well academically and socially, thanks to our high teaching standards and a real sense of community.
 Finham Park School is proud of its reputation as a highly successful secondary school with Specialist College status in Mathematics and Computing, and our Sixth Form Centre is highly successful in its own right. Our examination results are consistently excellent. In January 2008, Ofsted judged the overall effectiveness of Finham Park Sixth Form to be good with outstanding features in Care, Guidance and Support and Leadership and Management.
We offer students an extensive choice of both academic and vocational courses with a substantial degree of flexibility. In 2005, we became the first school in Coventry to be awarded the status to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, and we are very enthusiastic about this provision and confident that it is a most worthwhile alternative to A-levels. We also offer a full range of A-levels, Applied A-levels and Level 2 Btec First Diplomas. Following a recent curriculum review, we intend to offer some vocational Level 3 Btec Nationals in Travel and Tourism and in Sport as from September 08. These courses will run subject to numbers and should appeal to students who prefer a more vocational and practical way of learning.
We aim to develop confident, successful students who are able to follow the future direction of their choice, and the proportion of students going on to university from the Sixth Form is typically around 80%. Many are successful in securing places on the most popular courses at the most competitive universities. Past destinations include universities as diverse as Cambridge, York, Leeds, Coventry, St Andrews, Bristol and Princeton, USA.
We also provide opportunities for personal development and for leadership opportunities to help students acquire new skills, pursue interests and use talents effectively. We recognise the individual qualities and aspirations of our students and we do our utmost to make sure that we bring out the very best in everyone.
We believe in full time commitment and hard work from our students. From the induction days in Year 12, students are encouraged to be independent learners and to take advantage of our library and ICT suites. Our Sixth Form Centre enables us to enjoy good facilities, including a silent study area, a social area and food bar.
We are a friendly, hardworking Sixth Form and we welcome students from other schools - local, national and international.  I am pleased you are considering what the Finham Park Sixth Form may have to offer you. We believe that this could be a great deal. The Sixth Form here has a long tradition of outstanding academic success. As our partnership with other schools and colleges grows closer, we are now able to offer even more opportunities for the individual students to find the right combination of courses and activities. We are also very forward looking and spend a lot of time reviewing our work and adding to the range of choices on offer. Ofsted (January 2008) concluded that our provision for post 16 students is good overall, with many outstanding features.
