Curriculum programme: KS4
Year 10
Students have one (double - 2 hours) lesson of games each week. Students do a variety of activities that meet all key concepts of the new national curriculum.
New to this year we will be piloting a new creative curriculum for one boys and girls group on each side of the year group (X & Y).
Key Learning Objectives of Sport New Curriculum in Year 10
1. Students will have opportunities of basic leadership
2. 6 inter-college events to be run within core time to promote competitive competition and team building (one every half term)
3. Learn a minimum of one new sports
4. Students understand fitness & have opportunities to go too .Effective Fitness.
5. Students will learn the basics of DRABC and basic first aid in sport.
6. Create antimony in their learning
7. Student work towards one nationally recognised sports qualification
8. Students work towards one skill award
Year 11
In Y11 students have 4 lessons over the 2 week timetable (one double and two singles. Students can choose from a range of on and off-site activities which include Netball, Soccer, Badminton, Football at Alan Higgs Sports Centre, Basketball, Trampolining, 10 Pin Bowling, Hockey, Rugby, Self defence, fitness training, Judo and Golf. The views of all students are always listened to, and thus the timetable will constantly evolve. Those who opt to stay in school will follow a rotation of activities each half term.
We also after JSLA for 15-20 students in each block (in total 50 students). Once passed students will then have the opportunity to study the Community Sports Leadership Award in the Sixth Form.
Finally when all year 11 students come to their lessons as X or Y (once every 2 weeks) the department follows an inter-college competition structure
