Departments: Mathematics
The Mathematics department at Finham Park School is highly regarded by staff, students and parents. For the last 3 years over 90% of students achieved level 5 or above in their Key Stage 3 SATs exams. At Key Stage 4 over 70% of students follow courses leading to GCSEs in both Mathematics and Statistics. In Mathematics 75% achieved A*-C but we are targeting to achieve well over 80% this year.
The Mathematics department offers the OCR free standing Additional Maths qualification for able mathematicians in Year 10 and 11 to support their mathematics GCSE. In addition, a wide range of options are available at A-level, including Further Maths (EdExcel), Further Maths (MEI) and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
Finham Park School has been awarded the status of Specialist Mathematics and Computing College by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. This has allowed the school to continue its excellent transition work with its partner primary schools and to establish stronger links with its partner secondary schools. The Mathematics road-show and the video conferencing project have proved to be particularly successful.
The Mathematics department is one of the largest departments in the school with 14 Mathematics specialist teachers in total.
