Welcome to the web pages of Finham Park School ICT Department! (First of all please note that that we will be adding more pages to our area of the site as we re-develop them). We are an enthusiastic team of teachers who are excited by and enthusiastic about, the world of Information Technology. More importantly, we all passionate about making sure that Finham Park pupils get the best ICT "experience" possible and we work hard to ensure that we offer a varied, challenging and creative curriculum to all our students. Our aim is to ensure that by the time they leave Finham Park, all our students are confident, responsible discerning and skilled users of ICT.

The school currently has 6 fully-equipped computer suites, as well as computers in the school library. There are also computers in a number of other subject areas and it is hoped that a cyber-cafe will be open by September 2010.

As well as standard hardware and software (MS Office etc), we are constantly investigating new software and technologies in order to enrich our ICT provision. Students will have the opportunity to use a wide range of software, including Adobe Flash and Fireworks, Mediator, Comic Life, Audacity, Serif Draw, Page and Photo Plus, Game Maker and Scratch. We have invested in a range of hardware including sound and video recording equipment, robots (Spykee and Mindstorm), iClone 3D imaging equipment and handheld gaming devices (Sony PSP, Nintendo DSi). We are delighted to announce that we have purchased some Apple iPads and are as excited about using those as the students!

The Curriculum

Year 7 and 8
Students in Years 7 and 8 have an ICT lesson each week (one in each week of the two week timetable)

Students follow the ICT programme of study for Key Stage 3 and will undertake a diverse and challenging range of projects.

Year 9 and 10
Students in Year 9 also have an ICT lesson in both weeks of their two week timetable. Students in Year 10 have 3 lessons over the two weeks.

Students in these year groups work towards the OCR National First Award in ICT. This gives them the equivalent of one GCSE, though students in Year 10 may choose to study additional units In order to achieve the equivalent of two GCSEs.

From September 2010, Year 9 will follow the new OCR Nationals specification - more details of this course can be found on the OCR Nationals page.

Students are also able to choose the Higher Diploma in IT in their Year 9 options.

Year 11
Students enrolled on Diploma courses will undertake their Functional Skills qualifications (for IT, Maths and English) in Year 11.

Students not undertaking Functional Skills, or who are not receiving additional Maths/English, follow an exciting an innovative programme in Year 11, where they undertake project work of their choosing. Students can 'sample' aspects of ICT that they may not have tried before (including robotics, green screen filming, game design and multimedia) before choosing their focus for the year.

They will have the opportunity to work towards the Higher Project Qualification by the end of Year 11.

Year 12 and 13
Students can choose to study either an ICT or Computing qualification, depending on where their interests lie. They can opt for OCR Nationals L3 in ICT (which is a 2-year A2 only course) or AS/A2 Computing.

Results
We will be releasing updated information in September regarding 2010 results for Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

We expect a high level of success this year and are very optimistic about this year's results. Well done (in advance!) to all our successful students for all your hard work!
